How to Interview in a Crunch
Three tips on how to make sure your audience will never notice.
1. Use their energy.
This can actually be a gift. As the compressed timeframe doesn't allow people the time to put up their 'camera mask'*, their energy is urgent, heightened, and focussed - often the perfect pitch to get across powerful points passionately.
2. Core questions are key.
You'll know from your pre-pro why this person, and their knowledge, has brought them onto your set today.
Have your three key questions lined up ahead of time. Nothing background - just the beating heart of their experience / expertise.
3. Take your time within the time
Don't try to hammer through 30 questions in the blind rollercoaster hope that something will be useable. What you'll have is a lot of curt answers, and shots of your interviewee's eyes scanning their brain for answers like they're in Scanners.
Ask a few questions - give the interviewer space to answer them, and ask them again. Get better quality answers over information. If you wanted facts without flavour, you'd have just written everything.
#Authenticity means responding to your environment.
