Preventing a Runaway Workshop
Is someone running away with your meeting/workshop? How do you make space and time for people in a room without taking it away from the others? You want everyone to be:
-present
-respected
-involved
So what happens when one person is contributing but starts to disproportionately dominate the group?
Try these three things:
1) Choose people who haven’t spoken:
Remind people that you’re leading and that the session is for all of them. Your vocal contributor might also be self-aware enough to recalibrate.
2) Ask the vocal contributor to take notes.
They remain involved in the process and their focus shifts to listening.
3) Break up the meeting with a 5-minute writing exercise.
It resets the energy of the room and gives you the chance to bounce back gathering more diverse perspectives.
#Authenticity starts with inclusion.
